Curren$y - "Leaving The Dock" (prod. by Harry Fraud) #tbt

First throwback joint of the day goes to the homie Spitta. The Jet Life MC teamed with producer Harry Fraud on a five-song EP entitled Cigarette Boats last year. This became one of my go-to's from the project, with Fraud's synth melody and signature hi-hat supplementing Spitta's no-hook, penthouse raps. Match made in hip-hop heaven if you ask me.

Kanye West feat. Jay-Z & Swizz Beatz - "Power" (Remix) #tbt

Throwback Thursday: Do you remember when this dropped three years ago? It was the late summer of 2010 following the masterpiece that was My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Ye brought in Hov and Swizz for a monstrous remix that had me frantic with the Snap! sample and break down in the last two minutes. "What do it mean to be the boss? It means second place is the first one who lost, the crucifixion..." -- when Kanye was snapping.

Kendrick Lamar - 2011 XXL Freshman Class Cypher (VIDEO) #tbt

Take it back to just two years ago when most were still being introduced to this Kendrick Lamar guy out of Compton. This was the XXL Freshman Cypher with K. Dot, Yelawolf, Lil B, and Cyhi Da Prince. Kendrick's set had that same punctual aggression we know now, but you also notice the progression in presence and confidence. Hit the jump for quasi-throwback Kendrick.

Funkadelic - "Super Stupid" #tbt

First Throwback Thursday spin of the day comes all the way from 1971. Maggot Brain would be the last album with the original Funkadelic line-up. Pitchfork Media named it the 17th best album of the 1970's. This song is about a drug addict buying the wrong drugs, with lead rap-sing combo vocals from Eddie Hazel, and some guitar patterns from Jimi Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic". Hit the jump and get that good funk in you.

Otis Redding - "Try a Little Tenderness" #tbt (VIDEO)

One of today's #ThrowbackThursday features comes from one of the great singers and songwriters in soul, rhythm and blues. Those unwilling to do the proper research would recognize this song from the dedicated "Otis" record from Kanye West and Jay Z's 'Watch The Throne' album in 2011. The original song is performed by the late Otis Redding in 1967, just one day before he and his band died in a plane crash in Wisconsin. Watch Redding and his band progress this initially somber cadence into a full on praise and worship session. Try a little tenderness.

Sade - "Pearls" #tbt

In honor of "Throwback Thursday", a personal favorite from the great Sade's profound discography comes from the 1992 'Love Deluxe' album. Her trademark, quiet storm essence pours out of her soul on this record. Listen to her sing hallelujah's and cry out to the heavens here:
