I'm going to go out on a limb and hope that anyone that may stumble upon this post has heard and thoroughly enjoyed Frank Ocean's debut release Channel Orange. The album features so much substance and every single song has a story and a variety of emotions tied to it. For this post I wanted to focus on one of the more fun and upbeat songs. To start, Monks has some of the absolutely funkiest drumming I've heard on an R&B album, or really any album for that matter. The song itself has Frank drawing parallels between groupie love at a concert and Buddhism. This is what separates Sir Ocean from his contemporaries, nobody else can execute such obscure ideas with such poise and artistry. One of my favorite songs ever, as is most of the rest of Channel Orange. Enjoy.
